Head of Growth Salary 2026: London, Amsterdam, India, US

Head of Growth salary in London, Amsterdam, India and the US, plus the real cost of the hire: on-costs, search time and exit risk.

By ClappX Team · October 13, 2026 · 10 min read

The typical Head of Growth salary in 2026 runs from GBP 61.8k to GBP 122.6k in London, EUR 65k to EUR 180.6k in Amsterdam and INR 19.25 lakh to INR 60.75 lakh in India, according to Glassdoor's 25th to 75th percentile ranges. That salary is the smallest part of the bill: on-costs, months of searching, ramp time and exit risk usually cost more than the number on the offer letter.

TL;DR: A Head of Growth costs a six-figure sum in most markets before they ship a single change, and you can wait up to 210 days for them to start. Budget the total cost, not the salary. Then decide whether you need a person in a seat, or an owner on the number from next week.

Every founder reaches the same moment. Growth has stalled, or it is moving and nobody can say why. Marketing says leads are up. Sales says the leads are weak. The agency report is green. The bank balance disagrees. Someone in the leadership meeting says it out loud: we need a Head of Growth.

Sometimes that is the right call. More often it is the right diagnosis with the wrong prescription. The diagnosis is that no one owns the number. The prescription, a senior hire, is slow, expensive and fragile. Before you write the job description, do the maths.

How much does a Head of Growth make?

Here is what Glassdoor shows for the role in the four markets our readers hire in most. Each is Glassdoor's typical band (25th to 75th percentile), not the extremes. For London, Amsterdam and India that band is total pay, base plus bonus; the United States row shows base pay.

MarketTypical Head of Growth salaryNotes
LondonGBP 61.8k to GBP 122.6k a yearGlassdoor, October 2026
AmsterdamEUR 65k to EUR 180.6k a yearGlassdoor, October 2026
IndiaINR 19.25 lakh to INR 60.75 lakh a yearGlassdoor, October 2026. Average INR 32.75 lakh
United StatesUSD 142k to USD 259k base a yearGlassdoor, 2026. Total pay including bonus and stock is far higher, with a median near USD 427k

Two things jump out. First, the bands are wide. The top of the Amsterdam range is almost three times the bottom. You are not buying a commodity, you are buying a specific person's track record, and the price swings with it. Second, the US total pay figure shows how much of a senior growth package can sit outside base salary. If you compete for talent with large tech companies, you compete with their bonus and equity too.

What is the average salary for a Head of Growth in London?

Glassdoor puts the typical London range at GBP 61.8k to GBP 122.6k (October 2026). The lower end is usually a strong growth manager stepping up at a smaller company. The upper end is someone who has built and led a growth function before and can show the numbers they moved.

If you need the person to run a team, own a budget and sit at the leadership table, plan for the upper half of that range. If you need someone to execute alone, you are hiring a senior manager, not a head, and the title will not change what they can carry.

How much does a Head of Growth earn in India?

Glassdoor's range for India is INR 19.25 lakh to INR 60.75 lakh a year, with an average of INR 32.75 lakh (October 2026). The spread is wide because the title covers everything from a senior manager at a young startup to someone who has owned growth at scale. Price the person by the number they have already moved, not by the title on their profile.

India also adds a time cost that founders underestimate. Notice periods for senior roles commonly run 60 to 90 days. A candidate who says yes in March may not start until June.

What does a Head of Growth salary really cost the company?

Salary is not what the company pays. In the Netherlands, employer on-costs typically add 25 to 35% on top of base salary (Kolibrie Payroll). That is an estimate, and your payroll provider will give you the exact figure, but it is the right order of magnitude.

Put simply, every EUR 100k of salary costs the company roughly EUR 125k to EUR 135k a year, before bonus, equity or recruiting fees. Against the Amsterdam range above, that is a six-figure commitment before this person has shipped a single change.

EUR 125k to 135k

And it buys one person. One set of skills. One network. One pair of hands. A Head of Growth who is excellent at paid acquisition may be average at search. One who lives in analytics may never have priced a product. Most will still need an agency, a freelancer or an internal team to execute, which is more cost on top.

How long does it take to hire a Head of Growth?

The most expensive line is the one that never appears in the spreadsheet: time.

Senior marketing searches commonly take two to four months. In India, notice periods often add another two to three months. Put the slow ends together and a company can wait up to 210 days between deciding to hire and the new person's first real week.

Then comes the learning curve. New company, new data, new team, new politics. Even a very good hire spends the first weeks finding out where the numbers live and which ones are wrong.

Meanwhile, nothing pauses. Competitors keep publishing. Search keeps changing. The pricing question you postponed until "the new person starts" is still open. The seat is empty, so the number has no owner, which is the exact problem you were hiring to solve.

There is also exit risk. Senior marketing roles do not last forever. Spencer Stuart's latest study puts average CMO tenure at S&P 500 companies at 4.1 years, and 3.5 years at consumer companies (Spencer Stuart, January 2026). Smaller companies rarely do better. When the person leaves, much of what they learned leaves with them, unless it was written down.

Is head of growth an executive position?

It depends on the company, and the title is the least reliable signal. In a startup, Head of Growth often reports to the CEO and owns a revenue number, which makes it an executive role in practice even without a C in the title. In a larger company, it can sit under a CMO or a Chief Growth Officer and own one part of the funnel.

The useful question is not the title but the scope. Does this person own a number the board cares about, a budget, and the authority to change the site, the pricing page and the spend? If yes, you are hiring an executive and should pay like it. If no, you are hiring a senior manager. For the full difference between the roles, see Head of Growth vs Head of Marketing and what a Chief Growth Officer actually does.

What one person can and cannot carry

Growth today spans more ground than one profile can cover well:

  • Being found: search, the answers buyers read before they ever click, listings, site structure, catalogue, content, authority.
  • Measuring: tracking that matches the bank.
  • Deciding: go-to-market, pricing and positioning, which paid spend to fund and which to cut, retention, which market to open next.

Asking one hire to be world class at all of it is asking for a unicorn on a mid-market budget. What usually happens is the hire becomes a coordinator of agencies, and the number is still owned by nobody in particular.

Full-time hire, fractional, or an outsourced owner?

Here is the comparison founders actually need, on the factors that decide the outcome rather than the salary alone.

When you should hire anyway

We are not anti-hire. Hire a full-time Head of Growth when the job is to build and lead a large internal team, when growth depends on deep, daily, in-person coordination across departments, or when you have already proved which levers work and need someone to scale them inside the building.

Even then, the person will be better on day one if they inherit a signed baseline and a log of every change made before they arrived.

How much does Head of Growth make?

It depends heavily on market. Glassdoor's typical total pay ranges in 2026 are GBP 61.8k to 122.6k in London, EUR 65k to 180.6k in Amsterdam, INR 19.25 lakh to 60.75 lakh in India and USD 142k to 259k base in the US. Is head of growth an executive position?

Sometimes. In a startup, a Head of Growth often reports to the CEO and owns a revenue number, which makes it executive in practice. In larger companies the role may sit under a CMO or Chief Growth Officer and own one part of the funnel. Judge the scope, budget and authority, not the title.

How much does a Head of Growth earn in India?

Glassdoor's typical total pay range for a Head of Growth in India is INR 19.25 lakh to INR 60.75 lakh a year, with an average of INR 32.75 lakh, as of October 2026. Budget for notice periods too: senior candidates in India often serve 60 to 90 days before they can start.

How long does it take to hire a Head of Growth?

Senior marketing searches commonly take two to four months. In India, notice periods often add another two to three months. At the slow end, a company can wait up to 210 days between deciding to hire and the new person's first real week, and then the learning curve starts.

Is a fractional Head of Growth cheaper than a full-time hire?

Usually, because you pay for part of someone's time without full salary, on-costs or a long notice period. The trade-off is scope: many fractional leaders advise rather than execute, so you may still pay an agency or team to do the work. Compare total cost and who actually ships changes, not the day rate alone.

Where a Chief Growth Officer fits

This is the gap CGO by ClappX was built for: hire a Chief Growth Officer that works 24/7, without waiting 210 days for a seat to fill.

It works in two ways. Organic Growth: we execute, we own the number. Getting you found in search and in the first answer a buyer sees, site structure, listings, catalogue, content, authority and tracking that works. Intelligent Growth: we advise, you decide. Go-to-market, paid strategy, pricing and positioning, conversion and acquisition cost, retention, new markets. We do not run ad campaigns or make ad creative. Like a real growth head, we set paid strategy and direct the agency.

In week one, both sides sign a baseline. Every change after that is logged, gets a verdict (kept or rolled back) once its judgement date passes, and is reviewed monthly. We explain the method in growth experiments: kept or rolled back. The engine was proven first on Desify, the global commerce company our founder runs, before it touched anyone else's company.

Terms are plain. One flat monthly fee, less than one senior hire, plus a share of organic growth only, agreed after month one. Never a share of paid revenue. Month to month, no lock-in. If the numbers are not moving, stop paying us.

A simple test before you open the role

Write the scorecard first. One number this person will own. Where it is today, with the source. Where it must be in 90 days.

If you cannot write that page, the hire will not fix the problem. It will move it to a new desk, at six figures a year. If you can write it, ask one more question: who owns that number from tomorrow morning, not from the new hire's first day?
